Caring for a tuned car

Hi guys, always wanted to ask this and have trawled the forums looking for information. Sorry if its not an exciting topic or has been covered before.

I have mp215 and regularly check and top up coolant and oil. Id like to increase power with a stage 2 tune of some sort and just wondered what maintenance issues or anything people have had with more powerful tunes? The car is a daily, about 8k miles per annum driven gently with an occasional b-road blast in the good weather.

A friend has a 208gti, he enquired with a local tuner about their stage 2 package and was told he would need to service it more often? Would oil changes and servicing need to be more frequent?

If it's stock turbo, nothing special really. Perhaps add an extra oil change schedule if you drive it hard.

I like to do a single oil change service myself and then send it for a full inspection at a specialist alongside MOT. I think using a specialist (I use St Albans Car Clinic (Ford specialists)) means they are more likely to find problems common to your car as they work on a lot of them, than if you were using a generic garage.

Just keep servicing it to the specified schedule and you'll be fine. Throw in a mid-schedule oil change if you want too.

You shouldn't need to be topping up coolant or oil between services. How often/much do you top up?

Sorry, I mean I check it regularly, I topped up the coolant this morning for the first time since Ive had the car (its a 16 plate) as it was a little below min. Oil has always been ok.

Just made me wonder what I need would need to keep an eye on with further tunes.

Also understand that the standard turbo can tolerate up to around 230 bhp, so does anyone upgrade the turbo with stage 2 sort of power?

I have a TT S270 turbo and Collins stage 4 map.

Just changed the oil and filter yesterday after a few thousand miles and it defo needs a more regular oil change. Plan on doing it every 3k tbh. Wasn't difficult to do at home (except the filter was a PITA to get off) and got oil and filter for around ÂŁ35 :)

Standard clutch seems fine on 300bhp. May need replacing sooner than standard power but doesn't struggle with the power IME.

Ok, good to hear guys. So has anyone had problems where they thought this wouldnt have happened if it didnt tune it?
There are tons of things that can go wrong when you start fannying around with modding and parts that aren't OEM reliability tested.

Most common is probably boost leaks and random limp modes. But, the ST seems to be a fairly reliable platform if you do things sensibly. I've been told that the stock clutch's OEM is AP Racing and rated to about 400nm, so luckily doesn't need changing straight away like Audis etc...
